CITY EXPLORING WITH A MYSTERY TO SHARE

One city. One case. Your team of detectives.

City Mystery Trail is a self-guided city detective game: your phone brings the story, the city gives you something to discover. Observe real places, collect clues and solve a fictional case together. Turn a family outing or a walk with friends into a shared adventure, at your own pace.

From a city walk to a shared investigation

There is no on-site host and no app to install. Stay together as a team and follow the game in your phone's browser.

  1. Choose a city and a case

Explore the Family and Group editions listed for your city. Each game page shows team size, age guidance, estimated duration, walking distance and current availability. The two editions are independent stories, rather than difficulty settings for the same case.

  2. Open your game access

A purchased team ticket covers one team and the selected game. Choose English, German or Hungarian, read the starting instructions and head to the specified starting point. Pilot games may have separate access conditions.

  3. Look around and follow the clues

At each stop, investigate your surroundings as well as the story on your screen. Read aloud, compare what everyone has spotted and decide together. Written directions and map navigation help you reach the next location.

  4. Piece the case together

Use your collected clues to reach the final conclusion. If you get stuck, reveal the progressive hints a little at a time. You can take a break along the way and continue within your game's access window.

A family adventure or a longer team mystery?

Choose around your team's ages, appetite for walking and available time. Both formats bring you together to observe the city and discuss what the clues mean.

Family

Make discovery a family affair

A shorter detective walk with a part for children and adults alike. Take turns reading, spotting details and leading the team. Couples and small groups of friends can also choose this format for a lighter city adventure.

  • Usually 90–120 minutes
  • Typically 2–5 players per team
  • Children play with an adult; check the game's age guidance
Family
Group

More clues to connect together

A longer, independent story for friends and small teams. Share the jobs: one person navigates, another reads the case and the others keep track of the evidence. The emphasis is on connecting observations and reaching a conclusion together.

  • Usually 165–195 minutes
  • Typically 3–8 players per team
  • Choose a case that suits your team's ages and walking plans
Group

Durations are estimates: breaks and your team's pace make a difference. Check the selected game page for exact team limits, age guidance, distance and availability. Larger parties should plan several teams within those limits.

What do you need for a good afternoon of detective work?

A little preparation lets you spend your time on the shared adventure once you arrive.

A charged phone and your access link

One smartphone is enough for your team to play together. Open your access before setting off and have an internet connection available for loading the game and maps. A power bank can help on a longer walk.

Comfortable shoes, water and suitable weather

This is an outdoor walk. Check the forecast, plan breaks and postpone in unsafe weather. Step out of the flow of pedestrians before reading from your phone.

A route that suits your team

Check the game's distance and age guidance. If you are bringing a pushchair or have mobility requirements, clarify the route details before setting off; conditions vary between city routes.

Shared attention beyond the screen

Read aloud, take turns spotting details and look up from the phone. You can prepare the PDF included with your access in advance. Printing is optional; read the separate instructions for playing on paper.

Eight cities. Eight fresh perspectives.

Choose a destination or see a familiar city with fresh eyes. Each city page lets you compare editions and see which games are available to buy, open for testing or not yet available.

A few things to know before you set off

More frequently asked questions →
Do we need a guide, a booking or a special app?

You play independently in your phone's browser, without an on-site host. This is not a guided group tour. Follow the selected edition's starting instructions when planning your visit.

What does one team ticket include?

One team's access to the selected city and edition, including the mobile game, instructions and protected PDF. The listed price is per team; check the game page for the team-size limit and full price.

Which languages can we play in?

English, German or Hungarian. Choose your game language independently of the website language. It applies to both the mobile game and its accompanying PDF.

How long can we use a purchased game?

Activate your purchased team ticket within 12 months. Access lasts seven days from first activation. Taking a break does not extend that window; gift cards and test access may have separate conditions.

What if we cannot find the next clue?

Read the observation instructions again, then use the progressive hints. If a location is inaccessible, follow the assistance provided in the game. Never enter a closed or unsafe area.

Is this an escape room or a sightseeing tour?

It is an outdoor detective walk: a fictional story connects observations of the real city. You are not locked in a room and there is no on-site host. The aim is to discover places together and solve the case.
